A modified 1988 Suzuki Samurai with East Coast history has been added to the DFW Car & Toy Museum's Ron Sturgeon Collection, representing the compact off-roader's cult status and no-frills adventure heritage from the 1980s.

The DFW Car & Toy Museum has expanded its Ron Sturgeon Collection with a 1988 Suzuki Samurai, a compact off-road vehicle celebrated for its trail capability and cult following. This particular example, registered in South Carolina and North Carolina since at least 1993, represents the model's East Coast heritage and embodies the spirit of affordable adventure from the 1980s.
Powered by a 1.3-liter inline-four engine producing 63 horsepower and 74 lb-ft of torque, the Samurai features a five-speed manual transmission and dual-range transfer case that provide legitimate off-road capability. The vehicle has been modified with a 4-inch suspension lift and 15-inch steel wheels, along with practical upgrades including a tubular front bumper, cowl-mounted high-lift jack, auxiliary driving lights, step bars, rear tow ball, and a Hurst shifter for enhanced trail control.
With removable doors and multiple roof configurations including a removable hardtop, soft top, and Bimini top, the Samurai was designed as a versatile year-round outdoor companion. The interior features replacement bucket seats for improved comfort, while the five-digit odometer shows 92,000 miles, reflecting what museum founder Ron Sturgeon described as "just the right amount of road-worn history for a vehicle built to get dirty and keep going."
Sturgeon emphasized the vehicle's significance, stating, "The Suzuki Samurai was the underdog that proved you don't need size to go big. This one's got the lift, the gear, and the attitude. It's a time capsule from the golden age of affordable off-roading." The museum, which recently moved to a 150,000-square-foot facility in North Fort Worth, offers free parking and admission to visitors interested in automotive history.
The 1988 Suzuki Samurai joins over 200 vehicles and 3,000 collectibles on display at the museum, which regularly adds new acquisitions throughout the year to maintain a dynamic visitor experience. The museum's location and operations can be explored through their official website at https://dfwcarandtoymuseum.com, where enthusiasts can learn more about current exhibits and visiting hours.
