Acclaimed Cinematographer Yukiko Cho Joins Sci-Fi Feature 'Whispers of Water'

Acclaimed cinematographer Yukiko Cho has been appointed Director of Photography for the upcoming science fiction feature film 'Whispers of Water', a project that promises to explore visual narratives in a dystopian future where water is more valuable than gold.

The film, directed by Shahan Rao, will follow Asuka, a young woman undertaking a perilous underground journey to find water and save her ailing grandmother. Cho's extensive experience in visual storytelling and her previous acclaimed work in short films positions her as an ideal candidate to bring this complex narrative to life.

Cho's professional portfolio includes significant recognition at international film festivals. Her short film 'KANOJO' received six nominations at the Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival (TINFF) in 2024, while 'One Sun' secured nominations for Best Cinematography and Best Short Film. Her editing work on 'A Better Life' has been selected at festivals accredited by prestigious institutions like OSCAR®, BAFTA, and ACCT.

The production assembles a talented team, including Production Designer Anna Buksowicz, who has been recognized by the Academy Gold Rising program, and actors Lee Chen and Yazon Angela Lin. As Director of Photography, Cho will be responsible for coordinating camera, lighting, and grip departments to realize the director's vision.

Set in the year 3000, 'Whispers of Water' represents an ambitious exploration of survival, scarcity, and human resilience in an extreme environmental context. Cho's appointment suggests a commitment to creating a visually compelling and thematically rich cinematic experience that goes beyond traditional science fiction storytelling.

Principal photography is scheduled to begin on March 30, 2025, marking the next significant chapter in Yukiko Cho's already distinguished cinematographic career.
