Alamo Promenade Grand Opening Creates Historic Gateway Connecting Texas Heritage Sites

The Alamo will celebrate the grand opening of the Alamo Promenade, a welcoming gateway to the Alamo grounds that features statues honoring key historical figures and shaded seating areas. This new development transforms a traditional street into a pedestrian-friendly walkway, creating a sense of arrival from Commerce Street onto the historic site. The statues will lead toward the nearby Briscoe Western Art Museum, establishing a powerful connection between two significant cultural destinations in San Antonio.

The grand opening event, called "Happy Trails," will take place on Friday, November 21, at 11 a.m. on Plaza de Valero, the Alamo's public greenspace in front of the historic Menger Hotel. This celebration also marks the culmination of the Alamo Statewide Stampede fundraising challenge issued earlier this year. The friendly competition encouraged all Texans to preserve Texas history by giving back to the Alamo, with judging based on a per capita basis to ensure even the smallest county can win.

Featured speakers at the event will include Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick and Alamo Trust, Inc., President and CEO Hope Andrade. Together, they will cut the ribbon on what represents a new chapter in the Alamo's 300-year history. The Alamo Promenade project exemplifies ongoing efforts to honor the past while shaping a more connected, vibrant, and forward-looking Texas. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that oversees daily operations at the Alamo, Alamo Trust, Inc. implements the Alamo Plan to preserve this National Historic Landmark that attracts more than 1.6 million visitors annually.
