American Airlines, Stanford University, and World Bank Named Finalists for AFP 2025 Pinnacle Awards

The Association for Financial Professionals (AFP) has announced American Airlines, Stanford University, and The World Bank as finalists for the 2025 Pinnacle Awards, sponsored by Truist. These organizations were selected by a panel of treasury and finance professionals based on their implementation of forward-looking solutions that significantly improve the efficiency and effectiveness of their financial operations. Voting is currently open to determine the Grand Prize winner, who will be announced during AFP 2025, with Truist making a $10,000 donation to a charity of the winner's choice.

American Airlines partnered with GTreasury to develop a custom Collateral Management System that centralizes treasury operations and provides near-total global cash visibility. This industry-first solution integrates collateralized debt, fleet management, cash, foreign exchange, and investments into a single platform, increasing automation from 50% to 90% and cash visibility from 65% to 99%. The system has freed up to 20% of the treasury team's time for higher-value work, demonstrating how tailor-made solutions can deliver scale and agility in asset-heavy industries.

Stanford University created UniRev©, a secure and scalable payments platform that modernizes transaction handling for over 300 campus merchants. By automating processes and unifying merchant services across departments, UniRev has generated more than $1.3 million in annual savings while improving compliance and restoring confidence in central finance operations. The platform serves as a Center of Excellence that integrates seamlessly with the university's branding and backend systems, and it is now being licensed to other universities and nonprofits.

The World Bank launched FundsChain, a blockchain-based solution that digitizes and tracks funds disbursed to developing nations, replacing manual, paper-heavy reporting with end-to-end digital traceability. This innovation enhances transparency, accountability, and trust, ensuring that billions in global development financing reach intended beneficiaries. FundsChain has already supported typhoon recovery in Manila, empowered 95,000 youth in Kenya with education and training, and assisted over 750,000 households in Bangladesh. As the World Bank plans to expand the solution globally, it sets a new standard for transparency in public financial management.

Pat Culkin, President & CEO of AFP, emphasized the importance of recognizing these innovations, stating that they inspire the broader treasury and finance community in its pursuit of excellence. Chris Ward, Truist Head of Enterprise Payments, highlighted the role of innovation in driving simplicity, speed, and safety across enterprises, noting that the finalists exemplify what is possible when teams embrace bold thinking and deliver meaningful industry impact.
