ANDRITZ and VUJE to Modernize Slovakia's Gabcikovo Hydroelectric Plant

The Gabcikovo hydroelectric power plant, Slovakia's largest and a key source of about 10% of the nation's electricity, is set for a comprehensive modernization. International technology group ANDRITZ, in partnership with Slovak engineering firm VUJE, has been awarded a contract by VODOHOSPODARSKA VYSTAVBA to undertake this significant upgrade, ensuring the plant's long-term reliability and contribution to sustainable energy generation.

The project involves the thorough renewal of the plant's electromechanical equipment, which currently has a total capacity of 720 MW. The order value is in the mid three-digit million-euro range and is included in ANDRITZ's order intake for the third quarter of 2026. This investment underscores the critical role the plant plays in the region's energy infrastructure and the commitment to modernizing renewable energy assets for future generations.

Central to the modernization is the gradual refurbishment of the eight Kaplan turbine-generator units to the latest technical standards. ANDRITZ's scope of supply is extensive, encompassing model testing, engineering, manufacturing, installation, and commissioning.
