Angkor Resources Reports Significant Copper Mineralization at Cambodian Prospect

Angkor Resources Corp. has reported significant copper mineralization from diamond drilling at its Thmei North prospect on the Andong Bor mineral exploration license in Cambodia. Drill hole AB25-009, completed to a depth of 312.2 metres, returned copper mineralization over the entire 286.2 metres sampled, with an overall average of 1,309 parts per million copper. The results show increasing grades at depth, with the bottom 67.3 metres averaging 2,181 ppm copper, including a 52.6-metre interval grading 2,493 ppm copper.

The geological context reveals important implications for the deposit's potential. The upper portion of the hole cored diorite to 244.9 metres, containing quartz veins with iron and copper minerals. Below this depth, the drill hole entered hornfels, where mineral-bearing veins increased significantly alongside higher copper content. Dennis Ouellette, VP Exploration, noted that the increase in copper grade within the hornfels is particularly encouraging, as the contact between rock types follows near-vertical structures that host mineralized quartz veins.

Ouellette explained that the deposit appears to be a porphyry copper-related skarn system, where diorite intrusions have interacted with receptive sedimentary rocks. The presence of potassic alteration in the hornfels, overprinted by later chlorite-sericite and phyllic alteration, represents a sequence typical of copper porphyry systems. This geological signature strengthens the prospect's significance as the company explores for this deposit style at Thmei North. The historical context adds further weight, as an earlier target, Thmei South, located three kilometres away, showed similar geological characteristics in a 2016 drill hole.

The discovery's importance extends beyond the immediate results. With mineralization continuing at depth and the hole ending in copper-bearing rock, the system appears open for expansion. However, exploration faces challenges, as a second drill hole, AB25-010, was halted due to the Cambodia-Thailand border conflict in the region. The company has prioritized staff safety, placing activities on hold until conditions allow safe resumption. This delay highlights the geopolitical risks inherent in mineral exploration in developing regions.

The technical findings have broader implications for Cambodia's mineral resource development. As the company assists Cambodian Institute of Technology students in studying historical drill core data, the project contributes to building local geological expertise. The discovery at Thmei North represents a step toward establishing Cambodia as a potential copper producer, though substantial additional drilling is required to fully understand the mineralization's consistency and economic potential. The results suggest that both diorite and hornfels rock types host copper mineralization, expanding the exploration target beyond initial expectations.
