ARC Clean Technology and Nucleon Energy Collaborate on Small Modular Reactor Deployment in North America

ARC Clean Technology and Nucleon Energy have initiated a strategic partnership to evaluate the deployment of advanced small modular reactor (aSMR) technology across North American energy infrastructure. The collaboration focuses on integrating the ARC-100, a 100-megawatt Generation IV sodium-cooled fast reactor, into potential power generation sites in Alberta, Canada, and Texas.

The memorandum of understanding represents a significant step toward addressing regional energy challenges by providing a flexible, low-carbon power solution for industrial applications. The ARC-100 reactor is specifically designed to support decarbonization efforts in sectors including oil and gas, refining, chemicals, and manufacturing, offering a potential pathway to reduce carbon emissions in energy-intensive industries.

Key to the partnership is the reactor's versatility in generating both electricity and industrial heat. The technology has already gained traction through a partnership with New Brunswick Power, which submitted a site preparation license application to the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission in 2023 for a commercial demonstration.

Nucleon Energy's President and CEO, Dustin Wilkes, emphasized the strategic importance of small modular reactors in creating reliable, low-emission energy systems. The collaboration aims to evaluate potential deployment sites and progress toward regulatory licensing in both Canada and the United States.
