Atlanta Community Food Bank's 42nd Annual Hunger Walk Run Aims to Address Record Food Insecurity

The Atlanta Community Food Bank is preparing for its 42nd annual Hunger Walk Run, scheduled for Sunday, March 15, 2026, from Noon to 4 pm at The Home Depot Backyard. This community event, which also offers a virtual participation option, benefits the Atlanta Community Food Bank and five other local hunger relief organizations. The timing of this year's event is particularly significant as the Atlanta Community Food Bank is facing the highest demand for food assistance since the pandemic, making community support more critical than ever.

Every registration directly translates to meals for neighbors in need. Each person who registers to walk helps provide 90 meals, while each runner helps provide 120 meals. Since its inception in 1984, the Hunger Walk Run has raised more than $16 million for hunger relief, enough to provide more than 48 million meals. This sustained community effort demonstrates the power of collective action in addressing food insecurity across the region.

The hybrid nature of the event expands its reach and impact. Participants can join in person for the family-friendly 5K, which includes music, food vendors, warm-ups, and a dedicated Kids Zone with bounce houses, slides, and interactive characters. Alternatively, the virtual Hunger Walk Run allows participation anywhere, anytime on March 15 or whenever participants choose to get involved. The event page features outdoor trails that participants may visit, and walking in neighborhoods, on treadmills, or spinning on bikes are other ways to show support.

Kyle Waide, President & CEO of the Atlanta Community Food Bank, emphasized the event's importance, stating that it rallies thousands from the community to take steps toward fighting hunger. Every participant, whether on-site or virtually, helps make a difference and enables the Food Bank and other benefiting organizations to connect neighbors in need with nutritious food and vital resources. Participants are encouraged to maintain engagement by posting photos, tagging the Food Bank, using the hashtag #HWR2026, and sharing why they support the cause.

Registration is now open through the online registration portal available until 12 pm on Friday, March 13. Rates vary from $25 for virtual participants who pick up their shirts to $40 for runners, with walk-up registration available for an additional $5 per entry type. The Atlanta Community Food Bank, as the Southeast's largest food bank, works with more than 700 nonprofit partners throughout the year to fight food insecurity in the communities it serves.
