Big Sky's 7th Annual Best in the West Showdown Promises Thrilling Skijoring Competition

The Big Sky Skijoring Association (BSSJ) is set to elevate winter sports entertainment with its 7th Annual Best in the West Showdown, an event that transforms traditional skiing and horseback riding into an adrenaline-fueled spectacle.

Skijoring, a distinctive winter sport combining skiing or snowboarding with horse-powered momentum, will take center stage at the Big Sky Town Center. The three-day event represents more than just a competition; it embodies Montana's rich winter cultural heritage while pushing the boundaries of athletic performance and showmanship.

With 154 teams expected to compete across multiple divisions, including Novice, Junior, Pro Snowboard, Switcharoo, Sport Ski, and Open Ski categories, the event promises intense competition. The substantial $15,000 prize purse underscores the growing professionalism and appeal of this unique sport.

Beyond the races, attendees can expect a comprehensive entertainment experience. Intermission performances will feature freestyle exhibitions by renowned groups like the Keith Sayers FMX snowmobile team and the Entourage ski crew. The event's vendor village will offer a festive atmosphere with local food, beverages, western and ski retail brands, and communal firepits.
