Boca Helping Hands' Bowling for Bread Event Supports Weekend Meal Program for Local Students

Boca Helping Hands held its annual Bowling for Bread event on August 24 at Lucky Strike in Boca Raton, bringing children from local charities to enjoy bowling, food, and fun while supporting the organization's critical Backpacks weekend meal program. The event, part of Boca Chamber Festival Days, paired nonprofits with for-profit chamber members to raise awareness and funds for community initiatives. Proceeds directly supported the BHH Backpacks program, which has operated for 14 years providing food-insecure students with non-perishable, easy-to-prepare meals every Friday to ensure adequate nutrition during weekends.

During the 2024-25 school year, the Backpacks program served 1,381 students across 15 local schools, distributing 36,853 weekend meal boxes and 73,506 snacks to elementary students in Boca Raton, Delray Beach, and Boynton Beach. This initiative addresses childhood food insecurity by ensuring students have reliable access to meals when school cafeteria programs are unavailable. The program's consistent operation demonstrates Boca Helping Hands' long-term commitment to combating hunger among vulnerable youth populations in Palm Beach County.

The event featured participation from numerous children's charities including 4KIDS of South Florida, Inc., Achievement Centers for Children & Families, and Boys & Girls Club of Boca Raton among others. Ovation Home Insurance Exchange served as the For-Profit Chamber Partner, while the Lee Pearlson Steinberg Foundation acted as Event Sponsor, marking their 14th year of support.
