CAHEC Staff Complete Over 800 Volunteer Hours in Community Service Initiatives

CAHEC staff have completed over 800 hours of community service in 2025 as part of their ongoing commitment to community development through volunteerism. The organization's Team Outreach program, which has been operational for nearly ten years, requires each staff member to volunteer 22 hours annually at local organizations, embodying CAHEC's mission to create positive and lasting change in communities.

The volunteer efforts span multiple organizations that serve vulnerable populations. Staff regularly assist at The Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina, a nonprofit providing food for daily nourishment, disaster supplies, and educational programming for families. Another frequent partner is North Raleigh Ministries, which focuses on providing financial literacy and food assistance to community members in crisis situations.

Additional organizations benefiting from CAHEC's volunteer support include Dress for Success of the Triangle, which empowers women to achieve economic independence through support networks and resources, and Made4Me, an organization that creates personalized adaptations from industrial cardboard for children with special needs at no cost to families. Staff also volunteer with NC Senior Games and The Flower Shuttle, which recycles flowers for people living with sickness, terminal illness, poverty, and disabilities who typically don't receive floral arrangements.

This year, CAHEC staff expanded their volunteer activities to include writing notes for Amy's Ray of Sunshine, a local nonprofit that sends cards to patients undergoing bone marrow transplants. Community Relations Manager Stefanie Lee emphasized that volunteerism is integral to CAHEC's organizational identity, stating that these opportunities strengthen both the communities served and the internal team dynamics by allowing employees to connect outside their daily roles while making meaningful community impacts.

As a community development organization, CAHEC strengthens communities through affordable housing and supportive service initiatives across the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic regions. The organization engages in diverse product areas including low-income housing tax credits, historic tax credits, new markets tax credits, and renewable energy credits, while also offering loan programs, wellness and education initiatives, affordable housing development, and property management services.
