Cambrian and Anheuser-Busch Receive Global Water Award for Innovative Industrial Water Reuse Project

Cambrian, a water reuse technology company, and Anheuser-Busch have been honored with a prestigious Distinction Award in the Industrial Project of the Year category at the 2025 Global Water Awards. The recognition highlights their innovative approach to industrial water treatment and sustainability.

The project centers on a sophisticated water treatment system at Anheuser-Busch's Houston brewery, which processes over 400,000 gallons of high-strength wastewater daily using Cambrian's BlueCycle™ membrane bioreactor (MBR) system. This advanced technology transforms wastewater into drinking water quality, enabling onsite reuse for non-potable purposes and dramatically reducing freshwater consumption.

Over its 20-year contract term, the project is projected to treat 3.45 billion gallons of water, reduce water and wastewater costs by 20%, and prevent more than 23,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions. Notably, the project was implemented without requiring upfront capital investment from Anheuser-Busch, as Cambrian financed, constructed, and now operates the system.

The collaboration originated through Anheuser-Busch InBev's 100+ Accelerator sustainability innovation platform and represents the first full-scale deployment of Cambrian's Water-Energy Purchase Agreement (WEPA) model in the beverage industry. This approach demonstrates a new paradigm in infrastructure development, where environmental performance and economic value are intrinsically connected.

Matthew Silver, Founder and CEO of Cambrian, emphasized the significance of the project, stating that it proves environmental stewardship and economic efficiency can be achieved through innovative partnerships. The Global Water Awards, presented by Global Water Intelligence, recognize projects that exemplify technical excellence, sustainability leadership, and scalability in addressing industrial water challenges.

The project's success signals a growing trend towards outcomes-based infrastructure solutions that prioritize both environmental sustainability and financial efficiency. By reimagining water treatment as a service rather than a capital expense, Cambrian is helping industrial companies reduce their environmental footprint while maintaining economic competitiveness.
