Cancer Support Community SF Bay Area Breaks Ground on Revolutionary Support Center

The Cancer Support Community San Francisco Bay Area is set to revolutionize cancer support services with the groundbreaking of an innovative support center in Lafayette, California. The new facility represents a pivotal moment for the nonprofit organization, which has served the community since 1990.

With a $30 million capital campaign nearing completion, the center will dramatically expand the organization's ability to provide comprehensive, no-cost supportive care for individuals and families impacted by cancer. The project received a significant boost from an anonymous $5 million donation match, signaling strong community investment in the initiative.

The six-acre campus adjacent to the Lafayette Reservoir will feature cutting-edge facilities designed to holistically support cancer patients. Amenities will include children and teen enrichment areas, flexible support rooms, a demonstration kitchen, counseling spaces, art studios, a library, café, and healing gardens. Advanced technological infrastructure will enable the delivery of in-person, virtual, hybrid, and on-demand programs.

Local leaders, including Lafayette Mayor Susan Candell and Congressman Mark DeSaulnier, celebrated the center's potential to transform cancer support services. State Senator Tim Grayson highlighted the organization's unparalleled approach to addressing the psychosocial needs of those affected by cancer.

CEO Lucinda Bazile emphasized that the groundbreaking represents more than a new building, but a new era of compassionate and innovative cancer support. The center aims to increase accessibility, ensuring more Bay Area communities can access free, comprehensive support programs.
