The Florida chapter of the Citizens Commission on Human Rights is organizing an event to honor Purple Heart recipients, highlighting the importance of recognizing veterans' sacrifices and addressing their unique challenges.

The Florida chapter of the Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR) is set to host a special event commemorating Purple Heart Day on August 2nd at the historic Fort Harrison in downtown Clearwater. This event aims to honor those who have been awarded the Purple Heart Medal for their service, with families of recipients also welcome to attend. The evening will feature a reception starting at 5pm, followed by a banquet at 5:30pm, including a presentation by the Tampa area U.S. Marine Color Guard and speeches focused on veterans' issues and available support networks.
The Purple Heart Medal, originating from George Washington's 1782 Badge of Military Merit, is the oldest military award still given to U.S. service personnel wounded or killed in action. This event not only serves as a tribute to their bravery but also seeks to raise awareness about the challenges faced by veterans, offering hope through solutions and community support.
