Comcast is launching a significant infrastructure project to bring high-speed fiber internet to the rural Solano County community of Elmira, addressing digital inequity and supporting economic development through a partnership with local government and community organizations.

Comcast is set to transform digital connectivity in the rural community of Elmira, California, through a comprehensive fiber broadband network expansion project. Funded by a Solano County grant from the American Rescue Plan Act and private Comcast investment, the initiative aims to provide high-speed internet access to previously underserved homes and businesses.
State and local officials emphasize the critical importance of this infrastructure investment. California State Senator Christopher Cabaldon highlighted that reliable high-speed internet is no longer a luxury but a necessity for participating in the modern economy, accessing online learning, and utilizing telehealth services. Solano County Supervisor Mitch Mashburn noted that the project will help break down barriers limiting economic growth and educational advancement in rural areas.
The network expansion represents more than just technological infrastructure. Comcast's commitment extends beyond connectivity, with initiatives like Internet Essentials, which has connected over 2.2 million Californians to affordable internet since 2011. The company has invested over $130 million in cash and in-kind donations to support digital skills and community connectivity programs.
Accompanying the network expansion, Comcast demonstrated community engagement by participating in the 'Operation Old Glory' flag replacement at the local fire station and contributing $5,000 to the inclusive 'Play 4 All' park in nearby Vacaville, which provides accessible playground equipment for children with disabilities.
The new network promises multi-gigabit internet speeds, 99.9 percent reliability, and built-in cybersecurity, positioning Elmira to join the 64 million homes and businesses nationwide with access to Comcast's advanced infrastructure. For residents and businesses, this means enhanced opportunities for communication, education, healthcare, and economic participation.
David Tashjian, Comcast California's Regional Senior Vice President, emphasized the transformative potential of internet connectivity, stating that it serves as a bridge connecting dreams to reality. By bringing high-speed, reliable broadband to Elmira, Comcast aims to strengthen families, empower businesses, and provide seniors with essential digital resources.
