Comcast Expands Rural Broadband Access in Fresno County, Supports Local Education

Comcast is significantly enhancing digital infrastructure in rural Fresno County through a comprehensive broadband expansion project and community investment initiative. The telecommunications giant is set to bring reliable, high-speed internet to over 160 previously unserved locations in Riverdale, with project completion expected by 2026.

The $4 billion technology and infrastructure investment in California is supported by a $1 million Federal Funding Account grant from the California Public Utilities Commission and Comcast's private funding. Beyond infrastructure development, the company demonstrated a commitment to local education by gifting laptop computers to all eighth-grade students in Caruthers and contributing $10,000 to the Caruthers Unified Education Fund.

Local leaders praised Comcast's multifaceted approach. Orin Hirschkorn, Superintendent of Caruthers Unified School District, highlighted the company's holistic community engagement, noting that their support extends beyond technological infrastructure to meaningful educational resources.

The broadband expansion promises significant economic and social benefits for the region. Buddy Mendes, Fresno County Board of Supervisors Chairman, emphasized that the investment will stimulate economic growth, support existing businesses, attract new enterprises, and improve residents' quality of life.

Comcast's network promises multi-gigabit internet speeds with 99.9 percent reliability, designed to support essential community organizations like hospitals, schools, and emergency services. The company's Internet Essentials program, which has connected over 2.2 million Californians since 2011, further underscores its commitment to digital equity.
