D-Wave Quantum is establishing Italy as a quantum innovation hub through a €10 million contract for an Advantage2 quantum computer and educational seminars, advancing European quantum computing capabilities and research accessibility.

D-Wave Quantum Inc. announced it is hosting a series of seminars in Italy starting this week, aimed at advancing annealing quantum computing awareness and adoption among leading universities in the region as part of the Q-Alliance. Revealed at last week's Digital Innovation Forum in Como, Italy, the Q-Alliance has been created to support the Italian government's strategic framework for digital and quantum technologies. In support of the Q-Alliance, D-Wave announced a €10 million contract for a D-Wave Advantage2 annealing quantum computer in the region, ensuring accessibility for Italy's scientific community, academia, and industry.
The agreement includes acquisition of 50% capacity of an Advantage2 system for five years with the option to purchase the full system. This strategic placement of quantum computing infrastructure represents a significant step in establishing Italy as a global hub for quantum innovation. The initiative provides Italian researchers with direct access to commercial-grade quantum technologies that can accelerate scientific discovery and technological development across multiple sectors.
Dr. Alan Baratz, CEO of D-Wave, emphasized the company's commitment to fast-tracking efforts to establish Italy as a global hub of quantum innovation. Through the placement of a D-Wave system in the region as well as ongoing hands-on workshops and training for Italy's researchers and academic community, D-Wave is providing access to powerful quantum technologies and expert support to help usher in Italy's era of quantum-fueled progress. The educational component includes scholarships, internships, and training programs designed to build quantum computing expertise among Italy's growing ecosystem of young researchers.
The initial workshops are being held at the Universita dell'Insubria and the Universita della Svizzera Italiana, marking the beginning of a comprehensive educational program. These seminars are specifically designed to accelerate education and awareness of quantum computing, addressing the critical need for quantum literacy in Europe's research and development landscape. The combination of hardware access and educational support creates a foundation for sustainable quantum computing advancement in Italy and positions the country as a key player in Europe's quantum technology ecosystem. This initiative represents a significant investment in Europe's quantum future and demonstrates the growing importance of international collaboration in advancing quantum computing capabilities worldwide.
