DFW Car and Toy Museum Opens New Facility, Attracts Over 600 Guests on First Day

The DFW Car and Toy Museum has successfully launched its new location in Fort Worth, drawing more than 600 guests during its inaugural day of operations. Founded by Ron Sturgeon, the museum represents decades of passionate collecting and preservation of automotive and toy memorabilia.

After 50 years in Haltom City, the museum has relocated to a substantially larger 150,000 square foot facility at 2550 McMillan Parkway, offering visitors an expanded and refreshed experience. The new location features over 200 cars and more than 3,000 toys, representing a comprehensive collection that spans several decades of automotive and toy history.

Sturgeon and his team extensively renovated the new facility, modernizing the space by removing outdated features like shag carpeting, repainting, and retiling to create a contemporary and welcoming environment. The museum's strategic location along Interstate 35 provides increased visibility and accessibility for automotive enthusiasts and toy collectors.

The museum's collection is particularly notable for its extensive Volkswagen exhibit, which includes more than 35 VW vehicles, reflecting Sturgeon's early automotive roots working on Volkswagen Beetles. The facility offers free admission and parking, making it an attractive destination for families, car enthusiasts, and collectors.

With an official opening scheduled for April 1, 2025, and a grand opening event planned for April 12 featuring a cars and coffee gathering, the museum is positioned to become a significant cultural and historical attraction in the North Texas region. The museum will also host the Antique Toy Collectors of America's annual convention on May 5, 2025, further establishing its credentials in the collector community.

Open Tuesday through Saturday from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm, the museum offers more than just a display of vehicles and toys. It provides a climate-controlled car storage service and event facilities for car clubs and board meetings, making it a multifunctional space for automotive enthusiasts.

The museum's commitment to accessibility is evident in its dog-friendly policy and encouragement of photography, ensuring that visitors can fully engage with and document the extensive collection.
