DPR Construction Advances Holy Cross Emergency Department Project in Deerfield Beach

DPR Construction has initiated the interior construction phase of the Holy Cross Health Free-Standing Emergency Department (FSED) in Deerfield Beach, marking a significant milestone in the project's development. Located at 340 S Federal Highway, the 25,000-square-foot facility is on track for its scheduled opening in the spring of next year, despite initial challenges.

Originally planned as a cosmetic upgrade to the former Orchard Supply Hardware location, the project encountered unforeseen structural issues, including tie beam problems and the absence of rebar in exterior walls. These discoveries necessitated a near-complete demolition of the existing structure, preserving only a few steel columns and beams. Bala Purushothaman, DPR’s project manager, credited the project's progress to the collaborative efforts of over 30 trade partners, emphasizing their role in maintaining the schedule, managing the budget, and ensuring safety.

Upon completion, the Holy Cross FSED will offer a comprehensive range of emergency services, including advanced diagnostic imaging such as X-rays, ultrasound, and CT scans. The facility will also feature a fully functional on-site laboratory, private treatment and exam rooms, and a dedicated ambulance bay, designed to reduce patient wait times and provide 24/7 emergency services to the Deerfield Beach community and surrounding areas.

This project underscores DPR Construction's expertise in healthcare facility construction in South Florida, where it is also developing two additional FSEDs for Memorial Healthcare Systems in Pembroke Pines and Miramar. The Holy Cross FSED represents a critical addition to the region's healthcare infrastructure, promising to improve emergency care accessibility and efficiency.
