Elizabeth Graham, an expert on Trump-Putin relations, argues that Russia's long-term strategy to undermine U.S. democracy is being realized under Trump, with far-reaching implications for U.S. elections and global stability.

Elizabeth Graham, a geopolitical analyst with decades of experience in Russia and the former Soviet Union, warns that Russia's influence over U.S. elections is not only real but 'tremendous.' In an interview, Graham emphasized that Vladimir Putin's strategic objectives are being fulfilled through the current U.S. administration, posing a grave threat to American democracy.
Graham's expertise stems from her unique background: her father held a CIA Top-Secret Clearance, and she spent over twenty years working in strategic cities like Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kiev, and Almaty. As a consultant to USAID, she was smuggled into Afghanistan under Taliban rule and implemented poverty alleviation programs in Rwanda and women's empowerment in Bosnia. She met with President Yeltsin, Mayor Sobchuk, and Vice Mayor Putin in St. Petersburg, as well as former President Gorbachev, giving her firsthand insight into Russia's political evolution.
According to Graham, Putin's plan to undermine the United States was detailed in a 1997 publication, The Foundations of Geopolitics, which outlined a strategy to install a manipulable leader in the White House and infiltrate the country with Russian Organized Crime. Graham asserts that this plan is being executed, citing recent events such as the U.S. halting support for Ukraine, the costly war in Iran benefiting Russia and China, and the withdrawal of U.S. troops from key regions, weakening NATO and American military power.
One of the most consequential actions, Graham argues, is the shutdown of USAID, which she says has led to a potential humanitarian catastrophe. The Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health has warned that USAID's closure could cause approximately 22 million preventable deaths in Africa by 2030, most of them children. Graham claims this alone would place Trump among history's most ruthless mass killers, surpassing even Stalin and Hitler in cruelty.
Graham also points to financial ties between Trump and Russia, noting that Capital One closed roughly 300 bank accounts linked to Trump's businesses due to an internal anti-money laundering review. She argues that 'following the money trail' leads to Russia and Trump's bank accounts, indicating a long-standing relationship.
The broader implication, Graham warns, is that Trump is using the federal government to illegally change election rules in his favor, as he did in 2020. Without intervention, she fears America may hold its last free election in November 2026. 'Many Americans fail to see that Mr. Trump is committing treason—or that Russia wants him in the White House because he is weakening our democracy,' she stated.
Graham's perspective is informed by personal tragedy: her oldest daughter died in 2016 under circumstances ruled a homicide by poison, a method she attributes to Russian intelligence. This experience, detailed in her book From Democracy to Democrazy, underscores her urgency in sounding the alarm about Russia's influence.
