Former Senate Candidate Earl Martin Phalen Publishes Children's Book Drawing from Foster Care to Success Story

Earl Martin Phalen, who spent only 29 minutes with his biological mother before entering foster care, has channeled a life journey from childhood anxiety to Ivy League education and large-scale educational philanthropy into a new inspirational children's book. His book, 'Aim High Dream Big,' aims to reach children who may feel uncertain or out of place, using his personal narrative of overcoming early trauma. Phalen, who was adopted into an Irish Catholic family in Norwood, Massachusetts, faced significant self-doubt but ultimately graduated from Yale University and Harvard Law School.

His professional path led him to create one of the largest charter school systems in North America, serving 10,000 at-risk children across 23 schools, and to establish initiatives like Great Jobs KC, KC Scholars, and Skilled US, which have granted $100 million in scholarships and created employment opportunities for low-income families. Through Summer Advantage USA, he contributed to the academic growth of 50,000 children. These efforts garnered recognition from First Ladies Michelle Obama and Jill Biden, and he received the Presidential Service Award from Bill Clinton in 1997.

In 2024, Phalen was interviewed by Good Morning America about his programs' success, and last year, he explored a U.S. Senate candidacy in Massachusetts before deciding to return to his focus on children. 'I was overwhelmed by the support from across the nation, but felt called to return to my 10,000 children,' he explained. His decision to write 'Aim High Dream Big' stems from a desire to inspire youth regardless of their backgrounds, featuring over 21 illustrations to demonstrate overcoming obstacles.

'I wrote this for kids who are still figuring themselves out, who may feel unsure of where they fit or what they're capable of,' Phalen shared. 'My hope is that my story reminds children that no matter what challenge they face, that greatness is already within them.' Since its release, the book has seen high demand, frequently selling out on Amazon.
