Frontieras North America and Western Fuels Plan Wyoming FASForm Processing Facility

Frontieras North America and Western Fuels have entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to jointly develop a mine-mouth FASForm(TM) processing facility at the Dry Fork Mine near Gillette, Wyoming. This collaboration aims to leverage Frontieras' patented technology to convert coal into valuable products, including ultra-low-sulfur diesel and FASCarbon(TM), while supporting Western Fuels' member utilities with cleaner energy solutions.

The proposed facility is slated to initially process up to approximately 2.7 million tons of coal annually, with potential expansion to 5.4 million tons at full build-out. The MOU outlines long-term agreements covering the facility site, coal feedstock supply, and Western Fuels' purchase of ultra-low-sulfur diesel produced at the facility. Additionally, Western Fuels Association's transportation capabilities may be utilized to move FASForm(TM) product streams, enhancing logistical efficiency.

This initiative aligns with Frontieras North America's strategic vision to scale its FASForm(TM) Solid Carbon Fractionation technology across Wyoming and the West through mine-mouth facilities and its FASGEN(TM) co-location platform for coal-fired power plants. FASForm(TM) employs a continuous, closed-loop process that converts coal into FASCarbon(TM), ultra-low-sulfur diesel, and naphtha. Under the MOU, FASCarbon(TM) produced at the Wyoming facility could be transported to Western Fuels Association member utilities under separate commercial terms or sold into international markets, opening new revenue streams and contributing to global clean energy transitions.

The importance of this agreement lies in its potential to demonstrate the commercial viability of clean coal technology. By siting the facility at the mine mouth, the project reduces transportation costs and environmental impacts, while producing high-value products that can substitute for traditional fossil fuels. For Western Fuels, the partnership offers a path to provide member utilities with lower-emission diesel, aligning with evolving environmental regulations and sustainability goals.

Frontieras North America, headquartered in Houston, Texas, is constructing its first commercial-scale facility in Mason County, West Virginia. The company holds an international patent portfolio spanning five continents, underscoring its global reach and technological leadership. This Wyoming project could serve as a template for future deployments, potentially transforming the coal industry by positioning coal as a feedstock for clean energy and industrial chemicals.

The collaboration between Frontieras and Western Fuels is a forward-looking move that addresses both economic and environmental concerns. It promises to create jobs, support local economies, and provide a practical solution for utilizing abundant domestic coal reserves in a sustainable manner. As the world seeks to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, such innovations are crucial for balancing energy security with climate action.
