Frontieras North America's LOI with Cora Terminal marks a significant step toward expanding its clean coal technology, with potential to process millions of tons of coal annually and produce various valuable products.

Frontieras North America Signs LOI with Cora Terminal for Multi-Phase FASForm Deployment in Illinois

Frontieras North America, an energy and environmental technology company, has announced a Letter of Intent (LOI) with Cora Terminal, LLC, a joint venture between Watco Companies, LLC and SCH Services, LLC, for the phased development of FASForm(TM) production capacity at the Cora Terminal in Rockwood, Illinois. This move underscores the company's commitment to scaling its innovative coal conversion technology.

The proposed project would involve leasing approximately 85 acres initially for a plant designed to process 7,500 tons of coal feedstock per day, with an option to expand to about 130 acres for a second plant. At full buildout, the site would receive roughly 5.5 million net tons of coal feedstock annually, producing FASCarbon(TM), ultra-low-sulfur diesel, jet fuel, ammonium sulfate fertilizer, sulfuric acid, and naphtha. These products highlight the versatility and environmental benefits of the FASForm process, which aims to transform coal into clean fuels and industrial chemicals with zero waste.

The Cora Terminal is strategically positioned to support such an operation, as it can accommodate up to four unit trains simultaneously, has the capacity to move more than 11 million tons of coal per year, and owns over 300 acres of developable land. This infrastructure provides the logistical backbone necessary for large-scale production and distribution. The LOI outlines a path for both parties to conduct site due diligence, engineering, permitting, and infrastructure assessments, with the goal of finalizing definitive lease and transportation agreements. However, it remains a non-binding expression of intent, subject to successful completion of these evaluations and securing financing.

This announcement marks the third commercial site for Frontieras, following its $850 million facility currently under construction in Mason County, West Virginia. The expansion into Illinois signals growing confidence in the commercial viability of FASForm technology, which has the potential to reposition coal as a feedstock for a cleaner energy future. By converting coal into higher-value products like diesel and jet fuel, the technology could reduce reliance on traditional refining methods and lower carbon emissions.

For the region, this project could bring economic benefits through job creation and increased industrial activity. It also aligns with broader trends in energy transition, where advanced conversion technologies are seen as a bridge to a lower-carbon economy. The company's recent completion of a Regulation A+ public offering provides additional capital to advance projects like this one.

As Frontieras moves forward with the Cora Terminal LOI, stakeholders will be watching for progress on due diligence and permitting. The company's ability to execute on this and other projects will be critical to establishing FASForm as a mainstream technology. With the support of partners like Cora Terminal, Frontieras is positioning itself at the forefront of clean coal innovation.
