Government of Japan Honors Two Individuals for Strengthening Japan-Florida Relations

The Government of Japan, through the Consul General of Japan in Miami, Junya Nakano, has recognized Richard Del Vecchio and Ernest Aguiar with the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays, and the Order of the Sacred Treasure, Silver Rays, respectively. These honors highlight their exceptional efforts in promoting Japanese culture and strengthening bilateral ties between Japan and Florida.

Richard Del Vecchio, President of the Miami Friends of the Japanese Garden, was honored for his pivotal role in organizing cultural events and fostering sister city relations between Miami and Kagoshima. His leadership has significantly enhanced the understanding and appreciation of Japanese culture in South Florida.

Ernest Aguiar, a former senior political analyst at the Consulate General of Japan in Miami, received his decoration for over 26 years of dedicated service. His expertise in political and economic affairs has been instrumental in advancing Japan-Florida relations, earning him recognition from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs prior to this honor.

The ceremony, held at the Consul General’s Official Residence, was a testament to the enduring impact of Del Vecchio's and Aguiar's work. Their contributions have not only enriched the cultural and diplomatic landscape but have also paved the way for future collaborations between Japan and Florida.
