HKTDC Endorses 2025 Policy Address as Catalyst for Hong Kong's Global Economic Role

The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) has expressed strong support for the 2025 Policy Address delivered by Hong Kong SAR Chief Executive John Lee, recognizing its potential to significantly enhance Hong Kong's economic development and international standing. The address introduces a comprehensive set of initiatives designed to deepen international exchange and cooperation while providing robust support for mainland enterprises seeking overseas expansion through Hong Kong's platform.

Central to the policy measures is the establishment of the GoGlobal Task Force, which will be steered by the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development. This initiative, along with the Economic and Trade Express formed by Economic and Trade Offices and overseas offices of InvestHK and the HKTDC, aims to facilitate both Hong Kong and mainland companies in accessing new markets and business opportunities globally. The policy also includes a substantial injection of $1.43 billion into the BUD Fund, demonstrating the government's commitment to supporting business development and expansion efforts.

The HKTDC will play a crucial role in implementing these initiatives through its extensive network of 51 offices in mainland China and overseas. According to HKTDC Chairman Professor Frederick Ma, these measures reflect the Hong Kong SAR Government's dedication to innovation and excellence, positioning Hong Kong as a superconnector, super value-adder, and high value-added supply chain service center. The council will leverage its years of experience in business matching through conferences and exhibitions to support these objectives.

Additional significant measures include bolstering intellectual property financing at the Business of IP Asia Forum to promote Hong Kong as a regional IP trading center. The policy also supports the continued organization of the Hong Kong Shopping Festival under the HKTDC's E-Commerce Express, focusing on mainland and ASEAN e-commerce markets. The Creativity • E-commerce - Beyond Limits program, to be implemented by organizations including the Hong Kong SAR Trade and Industry Department and the HKTDC, will further promote trade digitalization to reduce costs and improve efficiency.

These initiatives are particularly important amid significant changes in international trade and supply chains, as they strengthen the competitiveness of Hong Kong enterprises and products in the global market. The HKTDC has committed to aligning with national development strategies and government policy directions to support small and medium-sized enterprises, facilitate business community collaboration, and attract mainland enterprises to use Hong Kong as their global expansion platform.
