The 36th Hong Kong Book Fair, the 9th Sports and Leisure Expo, and the 6th World of Snacks all opened today at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, running concurrently from 15 to 21 July. Organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, the three events offer a combined experience with a single ticket, allowing visitors to explore literature, sports activities, and international snacks under one roof.

Cheuk Wing-hing, Acting Chief Secretary for Administration, officiated the opening ceremony, while HKTDC Chairman Professor Frederick Ma highlighted the significance of the Book Fair as a cultural platform. “This year's theme, ‘Reading the World: Cultural Legacy | Joyful Journeys,’ aims to inspire readers to explore global cultures through reading,” Ma said. He noted that the synergy of the three fairs, with more than 770 exhibitors, makes it a highlight of Hong Kong's summer events.

The Book Fair features eight seminar series, including the Theme of the Year and Renowned Writers series, with speakers such as Cantonese opera star Law Kar-ying and Chinese avant-garde fiction writer Su Tong. The English and International Reading Seminar Series includes the inaugural ASEAN Literary Festival, featuring Indonesian novelist Eka Kurniawan and Singaporean author Clarissa Goenawan. Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer Liu Heung Shing will also share his experiences.

The World of Art & Culture exhibition, sponsored by the Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency, showcases over 200 books and exhibits under the theme “World in Words, A Voyage of the Heart,” with interactive installations recommending travel itineraries based on reading preferences.

The Sports and Leisure Expo includes exhibits from the Hong Kong Sports Institute, celebrating its 35th anniversary with a display of Asian Games medals, and Now TV broadcasting major sporting events. First-time participants Turkiye and Korea showcase their cultures, while Thailand returns with a larger presence offering complimentary Thai massages.

The World of Snacks brings together more than 1,300 snacks from nearly 30 countries, including locally handmade nut butter ice cream from The Nutter Company and traditional pastries from social enterprise TimeTo Gold. Interactive activities such as black sesame roll making and a junior sommelier workshop are also scheduled.

Admission is HK$30 for adults and HK$10 for children, with special discounts for morning entry and re-entry on select days. A Super Pass for HK$88 offers unlimited access. For more details, visit the Sports and Leisure Expo website or the World of Snacks website.
