Hong Kong International Optical Fair Showcases Smart Technology and Sustainability Innovations

The 33rd Hong Kong International Optical Fair highlights smart eyewear, green solutions, and aging-focused products, reflecting industry shifts toward technology integration and sustainability while facilitating global business connections.

The 33rd Hong Kong International Optical Fair opened today, organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and co-organized by the Hong Kong Optical Manufacturers Association, running from November 5 to 7 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Jenny Koo, Acting Executive Director of HKTDC, emphasized Hong Kong's position as a leading optical products exporter and noted the fair's significance for global industry professionals, with over 660 exhibitors from 19 countries and regions participating this year.
Under the theme "Bright Eyes - New Horizons," the fair features innovative products combining scientific research, design excellence, and sustainability concepts. Ten group pavilions include representations from Hong Kong, Chinese Mainland, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, and a new ASEAN pavilion, alongside "Visionaries of Style" showcasing creative designs. Notable exhibits include Japan's Sasaki Celluloid displaying eyewear from rare celluloid material, Taiwan's Greatland Enterprise presenting sunglasses with NIRTECH® lens technology for cooling, and American brand Blake Kuwahara featuring handcrafted laminated frames.
The "Brand Name Gallery" showcases over 200 globally renowned brands, including MINIMA from France, STEPPER from Germany, and United Colors of Benetton from Italy. Specialized zones cover smart glasses, designer eyewear, contact lenses, diagnostic instruments, and optometric equipment, demonstrating industry diversity. Hong Kong exhibitor Meisystem Asia Ltd. presents the EasyFit Trend ophthalmic lens edger for optical shops, while Arts Optical Company Limited introduces OPTI AI, using VR and AI to overcome traditional progressive lens limitations.
Three thematic labels—"Smart Ageing Products," "Green Solutions Suppliers," and "Smart Eyewear"—highlight innovations addressing market demands. Chinese Mainland brand MUEDO offers U10 Dual-Mode Smart Reading Glasses with auto-focusing lenses and hi-fi sound, while Japanese exhibitor Sasamata presents ultra-lightweight frames with flip-up mechanisms. JLX STUDIO MADE focuses on 3D-printed eyewear using eco-friendly methods to reduce waste, and LAWAKEN's LAWK ONE AR glasses provide fitness tracking, navigation, and 4K recording capabilities.
The Green Booth Design Competition recognized exhibitors for sustainable booth concepts, with Wenzhou Ouhai Glasses Co Ltd winning the Gold Award for eco-friendly materials and waste reduction. The 23rd Hong Kong International Optometric Symposium, themed "Age Well, See Well: Redefining Eye Care for the Golden Age," will feature experts from Hong Kong, Australia, Singapore, and the United Kingdom discussing age-related visual challenges and diabetic retinopathy. The symposium is accredited by the Optometrists Board of Hong Kong, offering up to six Continuing Professional Development hours.
The 25th Hong Kong Eyewear Design Competition, themed "Blending Tradition and Technology," encouraged fusion of craftsmanship with innovation, with award-winning designs displayed at BNG Rendezvous. The fair adopts the EXHIBITION+ hybrid model, integrating online and offline elements through the Click2Match platform until November 14, allowing continued business engagement.
