Hunger Walk Run Offers Community Opportunity to Combat Food Insecurity in Atlanta

The Atlanta Community Food Bank is preparing for its 41st annual Hunger Walk Run, an event designed to raise awareness and resources for combating hunger in metro Atlanta and North Georgia. With food assistance needs at an unprecedented high, the event offers community members a tangible way to make a meaningful difference.

Each registered participant will directly contribute to meal provisions for those struggling with food insecurity. Walkers will provide 90 meals, while runners will contribute 120 meals, addressing a critical need in a region where 1 in 5 children face hunger. Over its 40-year history, the event has raised more than $15.5 million, translating to over 46 million meals distributed to vulnerable populations.

The event, scheduled for March 9 from noon to 4 p.m. at The Home Depot Backyard, welcomes individuals and teams of all ages and abilities. Participants can register online until March 7 at noon, with fees of $30 for walkers and $40 for runners. On-site registration will be available at a higher rate.

As the fourth-largest food bank in the United States by distribution volume, the Atlanta Community Food Bank serves over 715,000 food-insecure neighbors through a network of more than 700 nonprofit partners. These partners include food pantries, shelters, community kitchens, senior centers, and childcare centers throughout the region.

The event offers more than just a fundraising opportunity. It will feature music, food vendors, warm-up activities, and a free mobile app to keep participants informed. Notably, attendees can choose to support a specific benefiting partner, allowing for personalized philanthropy within a broader community hunger relief framework.
