JapanFest Atlanta 2024 to Showcase Kabuki Theater and Modern Japanese Comedy

JapanFest Atlanta 2024 is set to offer an immersive experience of Japanese culture, celebrating more than five decades of ties between Georgia and Japan. The festival, scheduled for September 2024, promises an extraordinary array of performances, cultural exhibits, and culinary delights that showcase the rich tapestry of Japanese traditions and contemporary innovations.

Headlining the event is Miyabiya, a troupe from Japan that will present a captivating fusion of traditional and modernized Kabuki theater. Recognized as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, Kabuki is a classical Japanese dance-drama known for its stylized performance and elaborate make-up. This rare opportunity to witness Kabuki outside of Japan underscores the festival's commitment to bringing authentic Japanese cultural experiences to Atlanta.

Adding a contemporary flair to the lineup is Katsura Sunshine, a Broadway performer and Rakugo master storyteller. Dubbed the "King of Kimono Comedy," Sunshine will present original material alongside classic Japanese tales, offering a unique blend of traditional storytelling and modern humor.
