Local Law Firm Launches Driver Safety Scholarship to Combat Distracted Driving

Marks & Harrison, a long-standing personal injury law firm, is taking an innovative approach to addressing the critical issue of distracted driving by launching its first Driver Safety Scholarship Contest. The competition offers a total of $4,200 in scholarship funds to students who can generate compelling content addressing the dangers of driver distraction.

High school seniors and college students in Virginia and Washington DC are invited to submit either an essay of at least 1,000 words or a video essay between 5-6 minutes in length. Participants must propose strategies for educating communities about the risks of distracted driving and recommend practical methods to reduce related traffic accidents.

The scholarship awards are substantial, with first place receiving $2,000, second place earning $1,200, and third place awarded $1,000. This tiered approach provides meaningful financial support for students pursuing higher education while simultaneously engaging them in a critical public safety dialogue.

A panel of judges will evaluate submissions based on originality, creativity, and research quality. Students are encouraged to approach the topic with either a serious or lighthearted tone, provided their work demonstrates thoughtful analysis of the issue.

Distracted driving remains a significant public safety concern, consistently ranking among the leading causes of traffic accidents nationwide. Interested students must submit their entries by 11:59 p.m. on May 2, 2025. Winners will be announced on June 2, 2025, with their submissions published on the firm's website and social media platforms.
