Marvin Hamlisch International Music Awards Launch 2026–2027 Global Competition

The Marvin Hamlisch International Music Awards (MHIMA) have officially launched the 2026–2027 competition season, inviting youth and emerging composers, songwriters, arrangers, and orchestrators from around the globe to participate. The program, inspired by the legacy of legendary composer Marvin Hamlisch, aims to discover and nurture new musical talent through a prestigious international platform.

This year's competition introduces updated categories and expanded participation opportunities. The awards are divided into Youth Division (under 18) and Emerging Division (18 and older who do not earn majority income from composing). Categories include Film/Media Scoring, Classical Composition, Musical Theatre Composition, and a newly expanded Arranging & Orchestration category that draws inspiration from Marvin Hamlisch's musical legacy. All entries must be original, with strict prohibitions against generative AI, stock music, or pre-recorded compositions.

Winners will be announced at the late fall 2027 Marvin Hamlisch International Music Awards Presentation at the historic Avon Theatre Film Center in Stamford, Connecticut. Betsy Walters and Peter H. Gistelinck, Co-Founders of MHIMA, stated, "Marvin Hamlisch believed deeply in nurturing talent and opening doors for the next generation of artists. These Awards celebrate that spirit by connecting emerging creators with mentors, industry professionals, and opportunities that can help launch and sustain meaningful careers in music."

Beyond the competition, all nominees are invited to an exclusive Professional Development and Networking Day in New York City, featuring mentorship and career guidance from leading music industry executives. The judging process includes anonymous evaluations by professional judges and a Distinguished Jury of internationally recognized artists. Selected winning works may be considered for publication by Concord, a major music publishing organization, though publication is subject to independent review and not guaranteed.
