New Initiative Aims to Protect Immigrant Children from Foster Care Separation

A new national initiative seeks to provide critical legal protections for children of immigrant families facing potential deportation risks. The 'Protege a tus Niños' (Protect your Children) program, developed by World Voices Media in partnership with HCN Global, provides tools and resources to help immigrant parents legally appoint temporary guardians for their children.

An estimated 5.4 million U.S.-born children currently live with the risk of being placed in foster care if their undocumented parents are detained or deported. The initiative addresses this vulnerability by offering comprehensive guidance on establishing temporary guardianships that can prevent family separation and child displacement.

The initiative provides multilingual resources including YouTube tutorials, state-specific guardianship forms, and connections to immigrant rights organizations.
