The movement takes its name from Reeves' chapter in the Amazon #1 best-selling book Financial Trendsetters 4, titled "Pretty Broke: The Price Women Pay To Fit In." It aims to spark a conversation about the financial barriers many women face, often rooted in societal expectations to prioritize appearance and caregiving over wealth-building.

"Pretty Broke isn't about criticizing women or how they choose to spend their money," said Reeves. "It's about helping women realize they deserve to invest in their financial future with the same confidence they invest in every other part of their lives." The movement emphasizes that many women have inherited financial disadvantages—such as limited education on investing and wealth creation—that they did not create.
