The American Heart Association and NFL awarded $1,000 grants to three schools through the NFL PLAY 60 Exercise Blitz, supporting student physical activity and wellness. The initiative aims to inspire children to engage in at least 60 minutes of daily physical movement.

Three schools across the United States have been selected to receive NFL PLAY 60 grants, highlighting a continued commitment to student health and physical fitness. Douglas Road Elementary in Michigan, LaMuth Middle School in Ohio, and Cook-Wissahickon School in Pennsylvania were randomly chosen to receive $1,000 for physical activity equipment improvements after participating in a nationwide exercise challenge.
The grants are part of the NFL PLAY 60 Exercise Blitz, a collaborative effort between the American Heart Association and the National Football League designed to encourage students to increase their daily physical activity. From January 27-31, students completed a five-day physical activity video series featuring NFL special guests, with teachers tracking student movement minutes for grant consideration.
The initiative addresses a critical health concern, as the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' 2018 Physical Activity Guidelines emphasize the importance of diverse cardiovascular and strength exercises for comprehensive wellness. By promoting at least 60 minutes of daily physical activity, the program aims to help children develop lifelong healthy habits.
NFL PLAY 60 offers additional resources to support student fitness, including an interactive mobile app that allows users to create custom workouts and earn points by engaging in physical activities. The app features personalized avatars and content from all 32 NFL teams, making exercise more engaging for young participants.
Since launching in 2006, the partnership between the American Heart Association and NFL has consistently sought to combat sedentary behavior among youth. By providing innovative, fun-focused fitness opportunities, the program addresses immediate and long-term health challenges facing children across the nation.
Physical activity experts note that regular exercise positively impacts both mental and physical wellness, offering children better opportunities to reach their full potential. The NFL PLAY 60 program represents a strategic approach to youth health education, using sports entertainment to motivate students toward more active lifestyles.
