Nordex Group Secures 77 MW Order for Romanian Wind Farm from OX2

The Nordex Group has received an order from Swedish renewable energy company OX2 to supply and install 11 N175/6.X turbines for the Urleasca wind farm in Romania. The contract, which includes a 35-year Premium Service agreement, adds 77 MW of capacity to Nordex's growing portfolio in the country. The wind farm, located near the village of Urleasca in Brăila County, about 150 kilometers northeast of Bucharest, will operate under a long-term Contract-for-Difference (CfD) with the Romanian State.

In parallel, OX2 has sold the ready-to-build wind farm to Scatec ASA, a Norwegian renewable energy solutions provider. OX2 will oversee the entire construction phase, which is scheduled to commence in Q3 2026, with commissioning planned for the second half of 2028. This transaction highlights the continued attractiveness of the Romanian renewable energy market, supported by government-backed CfD mechanisms that provide revenue certainty for investors.

The Urleasca project further solidifies Nordex's position in Romania, where the company has contracted more than 500 MW in recent months. This order demonstrates the growing demand for high-efficiency turbines in the region, as developers seek to maximize energy output while minimizing land use. The N175/6.X turbine is part of Nordex's Delta4000 series, designed for low-wind sites, offering a rotor diameter of 175 meters and a rated power of up to 6.8 MW.

For OX2, the sale to Scatec represents a strategic divestment of a mature project, allowing the company to recycle capital into new developments. OX2, owned by EQT, is a leading renewable energy developer with a portfolio of around 33 GW across onshore and offshore wind, solar, and storage. The company operates in five European markets and Australia, and has about 500 employees.

Scatec ASA, the buyer, is a Norwegian renewable energy provider with a focus on solar, wind, and hydro power. The acquisition of the Urleasca wind farm aligns with Scatec's strategy to expand its onshore wind capacity in Europe. The CfD secured with the Romanian State ensures a stable revenue stream for the project, mitigating market risks.

The Romanian wind energy sector has been gaining momentum, driven by the country's commitment to increase its renewable energy share and reduce carbon emissions. The European Union's Green Deal and the REPowerEU plan have further accelerated investments in wind power across the region. Romania's wind potential, particularly in the southeastern region of Dobrogea, makes it an attractive location for wind farm development.

Nordex's latest order in Romania follows a series of successes in the region, including contracts for wind farms in Ukraine and other Eastern European countries. The company's global service network ensures smooth operation of the turbines, and its manufacturing facilities in Germany, Spain, Brazil, India, Türkiye, and the USA support local supply chains.

The Urleasca wind farm is expected to generate enough clean electricity to power approximately 50,000 households per year, contributing to Romania's renewable energy targets. The construction phase will create local jobs, and the long-term service agreement will provide ongoing employment and technical support.

As Europe pushes towards a more sustainable energy future, projects like Urleasca demonstrate the collaborative efforts of international companies to deliver reliable and cost-effective renewable energy solutions. The contract between Nordex and OX2, coupled with Scatec's investment, underscores the confidence in Romania's energy transition and the potential for further growth in the sector.
