The merger of OBGC and SSAA will provide Olney families with enhanced sports training facilities and comprehensive player development opportunities through unified resources.

The Olney Boys and Girls Sports Association and Sandy Spring Athletic Association have announced a merger that will consolidate youth sports programs in the Olney region. This unification brings all SSAA teams under the OBGC organization, creating a comprehensive sports program that will share field resources, training facilities, and developmental tools for baseball, softball, lacrosse, and basketball.
John Kadi, baseball commissioner of Sandy Spring, stated that after 13 years, the organization is excited to unite the Olney youth sports community under the respected OBGC banner. The merger means athletes will now play together as part of one strong organization, benefiting players of all age groups and skill levels through improved resource sharing and coordinated development programs.
Ben Corb, President of SSAA, emphasized that player development and growth remain the priority, with clear benefits emerging from the merger with OBGC. Both organizations' players and families will gain access to the finest sports facilities and amenities in Olney, building on SSAA's legacy of fostering teamwork and sportsmanship since its founding in 2012 with roots dating back to the 1950s.
Sean Davis, OBGC travel baseball commissioner, expressed enthusiasm about combining the talented coaches, families, and players from both organizations. The merger creates one cohesive Olney baseball community, with approximately 125 SSAA players expected to join OBGC teams for the upcoming fall season. The operational integration is set to begin immediately, with full implementation expected by December 2025.
Brad Scott, Executive Director of OBGC, highlighted the benefits for the youth of greater Olney, noting that combining the talent of dedicated coaches, commissioners, and volunteers will ensure area children receive the best possible development in youth sports. The merger represents a significant step toward providing top-notch training and community building opportunities for young athletes throughout the region.
