Olu of Warri and Queen Consort Launch 'Iam Itsekiri' to Unite Global Community

The Olu of Warri, His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III, and Her Majesty Olori Atuwatse III, Mama Iwere, have introduced a new cultural identity movement and digital platform called Iam Itsekiri. The initiative aims to bring together Itsekiri people and their friends across the globe, fostering a shared sense of heritage and belonging. It will be launched under the authority of the Palace of the Warri Kingdom and will include a media-driven campaign and a dedicated mobile application.

The movement is built on the meaning of the name Itsekiri, which translates to "blessing surrounds us." According to the royal couple, the platform seeks to strengthen identity, pride, and unity among Itsekiri people while also welcoming friends and allies of the kingdom. The initiative redefines Itsekiri identity beyond geography and population size, emphasizing that communities united by a strong idea can become influential movements.

His Majesty stated, "To say 'I am Itsekiri' is to make an active declaration that one belongs to a people that blessing follows." The movement embraces three groups: those born Itsekiri, those who have joined the family through marriage, and friends of Itsekiri who identify with the kingdom's values and ideals. This inclusive approach broadens participation while preserving the cultural pride and heritage of the Itsekiri people.

The Iam Itsekiri application will function as a digital village, allowing users to access updates from the Palace and the kingdom, connect with fellow Itsekiris worldwide, and engage with cultural content that promotes language, traditions, customs, and indigenous cuisine. The app will be available on both the Apple Store and Google Play Store. To amplify the movement, the #IAmItsekiri Challenge encourages participants to share personal stories, testimonies, and experiences that reflect Itsekiri identity.

The initiative is described not as nostalgia but as a strategy to preserve Itsekiri heritage, strengthen community bonds, and project the blessings and values of the Itsekiri people onto the global stage.
