Elmore's initiative comes on the heels of his visit to Kisumu in August 2024, where he attended the FESTAC Celebration as a cultural diplomat at the invitation of Kisumu Governor Peter Anyang' Nyong'o. During this visit, Elmore proposed that Kisumu host the "Tom Mboya 70th and the First Black Family Reunion in Africa" in August 2026, an event aimed at celebrating and strengthening ties between Africans and African Americans.
