Peru Achieves Significant Export Growth, Diversifies Global Market Presence

Peru has demonstrated remarkable economic resilience and strategic trade positioning in 2024, with total exports reaching USD 74.7 billion, marking a robust 15.6% increase from the previous year. This substantial growth underscores the country's evolving economic landscape and its ability to penetrate global markets effectively.

The export performance was particularly notable in non-traditional sectors, which expanded by 11.3% and reached USD 20.6 billion. This growth represents a significant leap from the modest 1.6% increase observed in 2023, signaling a transformative period for Peru's export strategy.

China emerged as the primary export destination, receiving USD 25 billion in Peruvian exports, representing a 9.2% increase. The United States and European Union followed, with USD 9.5 billion and USD 8.2 billion in exports respectively, further illustrating Peru's diversified international trade approach.

A critical driver of this success has been Peru's robust network of free trade agreements. With 22 active agreements, the country has secured preferential market access, enabling 87% of its exports—totaling USD 64.99 billion—to benefit from strategic trade conditions.

The agricultural sector played a pivotal role in this export expansion. Agribusiness exports reached USD 11.6 billion, a remarkable 21.6% increase driven by high-value products. Notably, blueberry exports surged by 36%, avocados by 29.5%, and cocoa by an impressive 257.5%. These figures reinforce Peru's status as a global leader in agricultural exports, ranking first in blueberries, asparagus, grapes, quinoa, and fishmeal.

Beyond agriculture, metallurgy and metalworking sectors demonstrated significant growth, highlighting Peru's multifaceted export potential. This diversification indicates a strategic shift towards value-added production and a more sophisticated economic model.

The Commission for Promotion of Export and Tourism (PROMPERÚ) continues to play a crucial role in this economic transformation. By focusing on internationalization, market diversification, and promoting high-value products, the organization aims to support sustainable and inclusive economic growth that benefits multiple regions and productive sectors.
