Quantica Infrastructure Unveils Big Sky Digital Infrastructure in Montana to Boost Digital Economy

Quantica Infrastructure, LLC has announced the launch of Big Sky Digital Infrastructure LLC (BSDI), its flagship development platform located on a 5,000-acre site outside Billings, Montana. This ambitious project is set to begin construction in 2026, with an initial capacity of 500 MW of new renewable power and battery energy storage, which is expandable to 1 GW. The development is spearheaded by affiliates of BSDI, marking a significant step towards integrating Montana's natural resources with the burgeoning digital economy.

The Big Sky Campus is designed to leverage Montana's vast land and renewable energy resources to provide scalable, sustainable solutions for AI, hyperscale, and data center operators. Damon Obie, a co-founder of Big Sky Digital Infrastructure and a Montana native, emphasized the project's role in creating opportunities for Montanans, enabling communities to thrive in the digital age while preserving their values and heritage.

John Chesser, another co-founder, highlighted the project's potential to support communities through employment and infrastructure investments. The Big Sky Campus addresses the growing demand for hyperscale, AI, and cloud computing by offering land, renewable energy, and high-speed fiber in a single, integrated solution. This initiative not only aims to meet the sustainability and reliability goals of customers but also promises to enhance in-state telecommunications, benefiting schools, healthcare, and community services.

Charlie Baker, BSDI’s Chief Financial Officer, with over twenty years of experience in the Montana power industry, is optimistic about combining traditional grid power with renewable and battery energy storage. The project is expected to connect to hundreds of miles of new fiber-ready underground conduit, ensuring fast and resilient connectivity to major metropolitan areas.

Beyond its technological and environmental benefits, the BSDI team anticipates the creation of numerous construction jobs and permanent positions, contributing to local economic development and workforce training. This initiative represents a forward-thinking approach to infrastructure development, positioning Montana as a key player in the digital economy while fostering community growth and innovation.
