Rare BMW 327/328 Enhances DFW Car & Toy Museum's Collection

The DFW Car & Toy Museum has added a rare BMW 327/328 Sports Cabriolet to its collection, showcasing a pivotal moment in pre-war automotive design and engineering. This vehicle, part of the Ron Sturgeon Collection, represents the pinnacle of 1930s sports-tourer innovation, with features like a Hurth four-speed manual gearbox and hydraulic brakes that were advanced for its time.

Introduced in 1938, the BMW 327/328 was celebrated for its performance and design, including a pushrod six-cylinder engine that could be upgraded to the 328's more powerful version. The 328's engine, designed by Rudolf Schleicher, was notable for its efficiency and innovative features like hemispherical combustion chambers and inclined valves, making it a favorite among racing car constructors.

With only 428 units produced before World War II, the BMW 327/328 is a rare find, with chassis numbers starting with "74" adding to its exclusivity. Its performance was lauded in contemporary tests, such as one by Autocar magazine at Brooklands circuit, where it achieved a top speed of 156 km/h.
