RE:CIRCLE Ontario Diverts 27,000 Tons of Food Waste from Landfills in California

RE:CIRCLE Ontario, a division of RE:CIRCLE Solutions, has made a significant impact in organic waste recycling and diversion strategies in California, as detailed in its inaugural sustainability report for the full year 2024. The report underscores the company's efforts to reduce landfill dependency and maximize resource recovery, aligning with California's stringent environmental goals and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's target to halve food loss and waste by 2030.

The company diverted approximately 27,000 metric tons of food waste from landfills in 2024, repurposing it into animal feed, biofuel, and other sustainable products. This achievement not only addresses the environmental burden of food waste but also supports regulatory compliance for grocery retailers, food and beverage producers, and other stakeholders in the food ecosystem.

RE:CIRCLE Ontario's operations in 2024 resulted in 1,781 metric tons of CO₂e emissions, with a notable greenhouse gas avoidance of 13,861 metric tons of CO₂e, nearly eight times the emissions generated. This was achieved through a circular model that emphasizes low-carbon energy and fuel consumption, supported by a dedicated manufacturing site and a fleet of 10 owned trucks and trailers.

The company's success is further bolstered by its advanced traceability and compliance systems, including the proprietary TraceOS platform and an in-house lab staffed with nutrition experts. Serving over 100 customers and collaborating with more than 10 commodity recycling partners across Southern California, RE:CIRCLE Ontario is at the forefront of sustainable waste management solutions.
