Daniel M. Berger, a real estate broker, has published a book of true stories from his career, highlighting the human side of the industry and offering a unique marketing tool for his business.

Daniel M. Berger, a real estate agent, has published a book titled Adventures of a Real Estate Broker: And Other Stories, a collection of true stories from his career. The book, available on Amazon, contains 14 chapters detailing experiences from over a decade of selling homes in New York and Connecticut. Berger, who owns and operates RE/MAX Prestige Properties, emphasized that the book avoids scripts or frameworks, focusing instead on real narratives. "Everyone tells me they have crazy stories," Berger said. "Every agent does. The difference is I actually wrote them down."
The project began in the spring of 2024 as recorded interviews with Bailey Herman, a college student and aspiring writer. Herman transcribed and shaped the chapters, completing the draft by her graduation in May. However, an AI-assisted editor nearly derailed the process, with Berger noting, "AI messed up the book in a bad way. Good formatting, bad writing." His wife, Elyse, an attorney, stepped in as the editor, merging Herman's drafts with salvageable elements to produce the final version. The book includes a testimonial from Berger's son, who stated, "I hate real estate, but this book is actually good," which Berger considers high praise.
Berger launched the book at a backyard party with 150 guests, where he signed copies and hosted attendees featured in the stories. The stories range from humorous to deeply human, such as one involving a 94-year-old man evicted from his apartment, whom Berger assisted in finding senior housing and continues to support. Another chapter, described as involving skulls, pornography, and guns, reflects the unpredictable situations brokers encounter. "Real estate is more about people than houses," Berger said. "You're in the middle of the biggest moments of people's lives. Sometimes they need a lot more than a listing agreement."
The physical book, a full-color, 170-page volume, now serves as a marketing tool for Berger, who autographs copies for clients during listing appointments. This approach offers a more personal alternative to traditional materials like market reports. In addition to the book, Berger hosts a weekly podcast of the same name on platforms such as Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and YouTube. The publication underscores the importance of human connection in real estate, providing insights into the industry's personal dynamics and offering a unique perspective for both professionals and the public.
