Santa Clarita Invests $1.2 Million in Intersection Upgrades to Reduce Pedestrian and Bicycle Accidents

Santa Clarita is directing more than $1.2 million in federal funds toward safety improvements at three of its busiest intersections, a move that local personal injury attorney Barry P. Goldberg says could help reduce the number of serious injuries caused by driver negligence. The investment, announced in May 2026 by Representative George Whitesides and Mayor Laurene Weste, targets intersections where data show a high incidence of collisions involving pedestrians and cyclists.

According to city data, drivers were found at fault in 73% of pedestrian collisions in Santa Clarita in 2024. Bicycle collisions rose 14% over the prior year, and pedestrian- and bicycle-related incidents together climbed 18%. The funding will modernize traffic flow and pedestrian safety at Valencia Boulevard and Magic Mountain Parkway, McBean Parkway and Newhall Ranch Road, and Golden Valley Road and Centre Pointe Parkway.

"These intersections are where the most serious injuries happen," said Barry P. Goldberg, founding attorney of the firm that shares his name. "A driver running a red light or turning without looking can change a pedestrian's life in an instant. Infrastructure that helps drivers see the people crossing in front of them is a real step forward, and we're glad to see this kind of investment coming to our own community."

Goldberg's firm handles cases involving car, motorcycle, truck, bicycle, and e-bike accidents, hit-and-run collisions, slip-and-fall injuries, dog bites, and wrongful death. The firm offers free consultations and works on a contingency basis, meaning no upfront costs and no fees unless it recovers for the client. With offices in Woodland Hills, Simi Valley, Valencia, and El Cajon, the firm serves clients throughout Santa Clarita and Southern California.

The $1.2 million investment was secured by Whitesides through Congress's annual budget process and is expected to fund upgrades such as improved signage, better lighting, and traffic signal enhancements. The goal is to make these intersections safer for all road users, particularly pedestrians and cyclists who have seen a rise in accidents. The announcement comes as the city continues to grapple with traffic safety, and local advocates hope the funding is just the beginning of a broader effort to reduce collisions.
