Scandium Canada Ltd. supports the Naskapi Nation's community-led initiative to evaluate potential multi-user access corridor options in Nunavik, emphasizing Indigenous governance and environmental stewardship.

Scandium Canada Ltd. (TSX-V: SCD) has publicly welcomed and commended the Naskapi Nation of Kawawachikamach for its recent announcement regarding the first phase of the Naskapi Nuuhchiimiiu Maaskinuw Project. This Nation-led initiative aims to assess potential multi-user access corridor options within Nuchimiyuschiiy, the traditional Naskapi territory, and examine their environmental, cultural, social, and economic implications. The Company issued a statement supporting the community-driven assessment, which was described in an official press release on June 12.
Scandium Canada's CEO, Guy Bourassa, expressed strong support for the Naskapi Nation's leadership. "We commend the Naskapi Nation of Kawawachikamach for the leadership it is showing with the potential multi-user access corridor of the Nuuhchiimiiu Maaskinuw Project," Bourassa said. "What matters to us is that the benefits of development reach the people whose land makes it possible. We are deeply committed to a relationship that delivers lasting, shared value to the Naskapi Nation and neighbouring communities."
The Company emphasized that the Nuuhchiimiiu Maaskinuw Project is an independent initiative led by the Naskapi Nation, and Scandium Canada fully respects its objectives. The assessment is grounded in engagement with community members, Elders, land users, and neighbouring Nations, aiming to gather information, conduct due diligence, and support informed decision-making regarding future infrastructure options. Scandium Canada firmly believes that decisions about infrastructure in Nunavik must involve all First Nations and Inuit sharing that territory, and it recognizes the priorities placed at the centre of this work: environmental stewardship, traditional land use, Indigenous governance, and collaboration.
In alignment with the Nation's initiative, Scandium Canada continues its own engagement with Indigenous communities connected to the Crater Lake project, which includes a hydrometallurgical plant in Schefferville. The goal is to foster dialogue, understand community priorities, and build lasting relationships based on trust, mutual respect, and collaboration. The Company is leveraging its Al-Sc alloys development division and the Crater Lake mining project to meet the growing need for lighter, greener, high-performance materials, aiming to become a market leader in scandium while committing to a more responsible economy.
Scandium Canada's statement underscores the importance of Indigenous-led assessments in resource development. By supporting the Naskapi Nation's initiative, the Company signals its commitment to partnership and shared value creation. The Nuuhchiimiiu Maaskinuw Project represents a significant step toward community-driven infrastructure planning that respects traditional territories and environmental values. As the assessment progresses, it will provide critical insights into the feasibility and impacts of a multi-user access corridor, potentially facilitating economic development while safeguarding Indigenous rights and interests.
