Senior Resident Combines Passions to Create Unique Community Groups at Linden Ponds

Margo Euler has channeled her lifelong enthusiasm for music and kayaking into creating three distinctive community groups since moving to Linden Ponds, an Erickson Senior Living community. Her journey illustrates how senior living environments can foster continued engagement with personal passions while building meaningful social connections. Euler founded the Broad Cove Chorale women's ensemble in 1975, followed by the Unicorn Singers mixed ensemble three years later, serving as conductor for both groups for decades.

After moving to Linden Ponds in 2014, Euler continued her musical leadership while expanding performances to the community's performing arts center. Her final Broad Cove Chorale concert in April featured a commissioned video documenting the group's 50-year history, which she describes as her legacy story. The transition from conductor to participant reflects how residents can maintain connections to outside interests while adapting to new phases of life.

Euler's second passion led to the creation of Aquapella, a unique group of singing kayakers that meets several times weekly at various harbor and pond locations throughout the region. The group, open to anyone able to launch their own kayak and paddle for two-plus hours, values curiosity, enthusiasm, and love of wildlife alongside musical ability. Since retiring from choir conducting in 2022, Euler has devoted more time to organizing Aquapella outings, photographing adventures, and recruiting new members.

The community's worry-free lifestyle has been crucial to Euler's ability to pursue these activities. She emphasizes how moving to Linden Ponds eliminated home maintenance concerns and cooking responsibilities, freeing time for passions and community engagement. This environment has also allowed her to organize garden songs, lead singalongs for continuing care residents, and share photographic presentations in the community's media room.

Euler's story demonstrates how senior living communities can support residents in maintaining outside interests while building new social networks. The presence of multiple chorale members living at Linden Ponds, along with a supportive fan base, shows how personal passions can become community assets. Her experience underscores the importance of environments that enable seniors to continue pursuing meaningful activities that bring joy and connection throughout later life stages.
