Smart Lighting Expo and Spring Lighting Fair Open in Hong Kong, Showcasing 900 Exhibitors and New 'Light Lab'

The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) opened the 3rd Smart Lighting Expo and the 17th Hong Kong International Lighting Fair (Spring Edition) on April 21, 2026, at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Running through April 23, the twin fairs feature approximately 900 exhibitors under the theme "Go Smart, Live Green." A key highlight is the debut of "Light Lab," a new zone focusing on lighting solutions that combine innovation and sustainability.

Jenny Koo, Deputy Executive Director of the HKTDC, emphasized the importance of the fairs in promoting Hong Kong as an international innovation and technology hub. The fairs are part of the Business of Innovation and Technology Week (BIT Week) and include new exhibitors from the Netherlands and Vietnam. Notable participants include Absen, whose LED displays were used at the World Cup and World Expos, and Shanghai Sansi, which supplies over 60% of the screens in Times Square, New York.

The global smart lighting market is projected to reach US$44 billion by 2030, according to Statista. The International Energy Agency noted in March that a second wave of LED transformation is imminent, with significant opportunities in regions where LED penetration remains low. Approximately 30% of residential lighting fixtures worldwide have yet to be upgraded, and early generation LED products are reaching the end of their service life, creating demand for high-efficiency and intelligent lighting systems.

The "Light Lab" in Hall 3 features three scenario-based designs: Lumin Garden, Lumin Arena, and Lumin Gallery. Lumin Garden showcases garden lighting and solar luminaires, including plant lighting fixtures from Shanghai Sansi LED Lighting that use proprietary ceramic technology for superior heat dissipation. Lumin Arena displays professional-grade stadium lights, such as the FSeries stadium lights from Foshan Electrical and Lighting, which are 20% to 45% lighter than traditional fixtures and have a lifespan of up to 100,000 hours. Lumin Gallery focuses on museum lighting, featuring ultralow glare spotlights from Guangdong ThinkGisp that reduce eye stimulation.

Group pavilions include the Zhongshan Smart Home Zone, with the Zhongshan Guzhen and Henglan pavilions, and the Shanghai Pudong Intelligent Lighting Association's Smart Ecosystem and IoT Supply Chain Area. The Spring Lighting Fair also features pavilions from Xiamen, Changzhou Zouqu, and Zhejiang.

The fairs highlight four major lighting trends: smart lighting, green lighting, entertainment lighting, and human-centric lighting. Smart lighting exhibitors include BWEETECH, showcasing its Bwee Smart Control Knob with Zigbee protocol and Apple Home integration, and KC Lighting with its M7 Micro 48V Track System supporting Casambi and DALI control. Green lighting products include Absen's A25 Series low-carbon LED display, consuming less than one kWh per square meter per day, and solar street lights from Guangdong Zhongqian New Energy. Entertainment lighting features dynamic backlights from Zhongyuan Innovation and Gobo Projection Lights from Zhongshan Walton Lighting. Human-centric lighting includes dim-to-warm track lights from Shenzhen Norming Lighting and aroma diffuser humidifying lamps from Mascuge.

The fairs also host forums: the Asian Lighting Forum on April 20-21, focusing on immersive entertainment and landscape lighting, and the Smart Lighting Solution Forum on April 21, discussing smart home lighting and supply chain ecosystems. Exhibitor Opple Lighting, as the official partner of the buyers' VIP lounge, showcases its SDL smart spectral lighting technology.
