The Sri Lanka American Association of Southern California honored L. Ron Hubbard during its Independence Day celebration at the Church of Scientology of the Valley. Following a cultural program, the board and members presented a special recognition honoring the Scientology founder. The evening celebrated Sri Lankan culture as a warm, inclusive community extending friendship and support to all.
For the past nine years, this Association has partnered with the Church of Scientology of the Valley where it has held 25 cultural events for the Sri Lankan community. The Association was founded over 50 years ago to foster fellowship and unity among members of the Sri Lankan community in Southern California and preserve their cultural heritage. Through this partnership, the board and members learned about Hubbard's life and legacy and his work in education and literacy, drug rehabilitation, and criminal reform.
Hubbard's developments in these fields have brought literacy to millions in the United States and abroad, freed hundreds of thousands from substance abuse, and restored trust in communities globally. In his 1965 article titled My Philosophy, Hubbard stated: "So my own philosophy is that one should share what wisdom he has, one should help others to help themselves and one should keep going despite heavy weather, for there is always a calm ahead." The evening concluded with the presentation of the recognition by the president and board members.
In its 2015 Collector's Edition, Smithsonian Magazine featured Hubbard as one of the 100 most significant Americans of all time and among the 11 most influential religious figures in American history. Described as a man who lived 20 lifetimes in one, he was a best-selling author who holds the Guinness World Record for most published works by one author. His discoveries on the human mind and spirit led to founding Scientology, the world's youngest major religion with the voice of its Founder intact in public lectures delivered over a quarter-century.
L. Ron Hubbard: In His Own Voice is a Scientology Network original series of autobiographical vignettes of Hubbard in his own words and voice. It can be watched on the Scientology Network on DIRECTV Channel 320, DIRECTV STREAM, AT&T U-Verse, and streaming at https://www.scientology.tv, on mobile apps, and via Android, iOS, Roku, Amazon Fire, and Apple TV platforms.
