Sunrise Girl Scout Earns Prestigious Gold Award for Empowering Teen Girls with Car Care Knowledge

Amelie Prodhomme, a Sunrise resident and dedicated Girl Scout, has achieved the highest honor in the organization by earning the Girl Scout Gold Award. Her project, "Girls on the Go: Helping Teen Girls Navigate Car Care with Confidence," was born out of a personal observation of her sister's dependence on their father for car-related issues. Recognizing a broader need, Prodhomme developed an innovative program aimed at equipping teen girls with essential car maintenance skills.

The initiative included hands-on workshops and the creation of a detailed pamphlet that covers basic car care tasks. To enhance learning, Prodhomme incorporated a QR code in the pamphlet that links to instructional videos she produced, making the information readily accessible. Additionally, she expanded her outreach by launching a YouTube channel and utilizing social media platforms to disseminate her educational content, ensuring it reaches a wider audience of young drivers.

Lisa Johnson, CEO of Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida, praised Prodhomme and her peers for their dedication to addressing contemporary challenges with creativity and leadership. The 2025 Annual Gold Award Ceremony celebrated Prodhomme and 26 other young women who have made significant contributions to their communities through their Gold Award projects. This year's ceremony was supported by notable sponsors including Amazon, Fiserv, and Publix Super Market Charities, highlighting the community's commitment to fostering young female leaders.

Prodhomme's project not only fills a vital educational gap but also empowers teen girls to become more self-reliant and confident in handling car maintenance, a skill that will serve them well throughout their lives.
