UNCF Radiothon Aims to Raise $25,000 on 81st Anniversary with Star-Studded Fundraising Event

The United Negro College Fund (UNCF) will host its Second Annual UNCF/Omni-Channel Radio Radiothon on April 25, seeking to raise $25,000 through a unique '25 - 25 - $25' campaign. The 12-hour live-streamed event aims to encourage 1,000 listeners to donate $25 on the organization's Founder's Day, demonstrating the power of collective community support for educational opportunity.

The radiothon will feature an impressive lineup of celebrities, musicians, and entertainers, including Congresswoman Maxine Waters, Evelyn 'Champagne' King, and a special tribute to Frankie Beverly. These high-profile participants underscore the cultural significance of supporting Black education and the ongoing legacy of HBCUs.

UNCF's impact is substantial, with data revealing the critical role of Historically Black Colleges and Universities in developing professional leadership. Seventy percent of Black doctors, fifty percent of Black lawyers, and eighty percent of Black judges are HBCU graduates. Notable alumni include Vice President Kamala Harris, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Oprah Winfrey, and Spike Lee, highlighting the transformative power of these institutions.

In the past year, UNCF awarded over $100 million in scholarships to students attending more than 1,100 schools nationwide, including its network of 37 HBCUs. Despite representing only 3% of all colleges and universities, these institutions are remarkably effective, awarding 13% of bachelor's degrees, 5% of master's degrees, and 24% of STEM degrees earned by Black students.

The radiothon represents more than a fundraising event; it is a celebration of educational empowerment, community solidarity, and the ongoing commitment to providing opportunities for students who might otherwise face significant barriers to higher education.
